Zoe is my go to person for cake recipes! I adore this red velvet cake and have made it many times. This time it’s for my grandson’s rehearsal dinner and it will be in a 14″ square pan. I need to cover the cake with fondant and am wondering how your chocolate frosting would work. I’ve used it before and it sets up nice and firm, but wasn’t sure about covering it with fondant. What do you think?

Baked this cake for my boss who loves red velvet cake. It was a big hit at the office!! I probably baked it a bit too long because I made a Bundt cake instead of the layer cake. The flavor & texture was amazing!! I love Zoe’s recipes & this one will be a keeper for sure 🙂

Hi, I’ve been looking at various red velvet cake recipes and noticed your recipe is the only one that does not include vinegar. I’m curious why you decided to leave out the vinegar and only use buttermilk for the acidity?
