This recipe is deliscious!! We accidentally ordered too many bananas on a delivery grocery order (ordered 4 bunches instead of 4 bananas) and my son and I hunted for fun desserts to make with them, and found this one. We have a regular banana chocolate chip bread recipe that we make - we used tha and served it with vanilla ice cream. It was fantastic!! I agree with the other poster that the flavor is mostly chocolate, but it was soooo good. We have some bananas left over so I might make a banana-rum sauce to go on top for the remaining servings but it doesn't really need it. I will definitely make this again when we have company over!

It was delicious and everyone loved it. I did feel that the overwhelming taste was chocolate because I couldn't taste the banana very well. Still the chocolate custard was so awesome. I did make a roasted banana ice cream to go with it. Yum!

Would Whiskey or Bourbon work as a substitute for the Rum?

In reply to <a href="https://www.zoebakes.com/2012/02/27/chocolate-banana-bread-pudding/#comment-19140">Andrea</a>.

Hi Andrea,

You can use a touch of vanilla instead or just omit the rum. If you like the flavor of coffee, it would be a nice contrast in this dessert.

Cheers, Zoë

Hi Rach,

Half and half is a mixture of milk and heavy cream. We use it in our coffee. You can make your own by blending milk and cream in equal parts.

Thanks, Zoë

Hi Abby,

You can try it in a 9-inch square and see if it fits? I would just put the cubed banana bread in the pan and see if it is going to work, before you pour the custard over it. If the bread won't fit, you'll have to graduate to something slightly larger.

Thanks, Zoë
