In reply to <a href="https://www.zoebakes.com/2008/09/12/sugar-plums-with-fresh-ginger/#comment-752301">Natali McKee</a>.

Hi Natali,

My husband ordered a new heating element and installed it, but ours was a year old. I would think yours is still under warrantee. Seems odd that Home Depot won't help you fix it, especially since it was two days old. I would contact the manufacturer. If they don't respond, I'd put the word out on Twitter and find out if anyone else is having this issue and how they resolved it.

BTW - the oven worked great with the new heating element. That oven was great, but the next time I was in the market, I went with a Bosch.

Good luck! Zoë

Glad to find your site - not only am I in love with the plums - my oven exploded yesterday while I was doing a roast beest dinner to treat my husband who has been quite ill - the sound like a freight train, the red explosion, the frightened to death dog...all components were there. The stove is about 10 years old (a top of the line Jenn Air electric)thank God the wiring in the house has been updated (the house was built in 1929) so the circut breaker flipped and took the stove down - now all I have to do is wait forever to get someone out here to replace the element -I am 63 years old and have cooked and baked for years and years and years in three countries on every kind of cheap, expensive, medium stove and have never had this happen - what is going on????

Zoe, my oven blew up back in May. Just behind the electronic timer you could see the fire. The fire behind the instrument panel went for over 10 minutes. I had to quickly turn off the gas to the cook top. It took 2 months to get a replacement oven. That one broke down 2 weeks later. 3rd times the charm I tell myself now. Like you I now hesitate to go outside with the boys when I am baking.

Hi Lore,

I have a Frigidaire and up until last week I was quite pleased with it. I don't own a microwave, although I may soon! ;)

OMG Zoe! I'm so glad you and your son are both ok. I have quite a "moody" oven(to say the least) myself and it's been one year already since I haven't used it. That's why I started baking with my microwave oven.
What was your oven's brand?

Hi Robinsue,

So sorry to hear about your stone. My co-author's just broke after 10 years of constant use??? I still have never had one break, but I would have said that about my oven too. ;)

If you just jam the two pieces together you can still use it. I've known people to use several unglazed garden tiles pushed together in the oven.

Happy baking! Zoë

Wow... no one needs this kind of excitement! I was without an oven for two weeks last summer and I thought I would go absolutely crazy. As far as the California Sugar Plums...I've never eaten them, but am now very anxious to try them.
